Government Shutdown Ends – WOTC Update

Washington Monument

After negotiations transpired over the last few days, Congress has worked on a newly accepted plan to end the government shutdown. President Obama signed the bill, that also lifts the debt limit, late yesterday.  As noted earlier, the government shutdown on its surface was not expected to have a lasting detrimental impact on WOTC processing at the states as an ongoing concern, and this development certainly does help pave the way for more focused attention on tax reform and, ideally, WOTC renewal – either as part of tax reform, or as a standalone effort. Recall that WOTC was last renewed on Jan 2, 2013. That extension included a retroactive component to cover the 2012 Hiatus, and one year forward until December 31, 2013.
